I find it most efficient to do a couple faceups at the same time, so while I was repainting Maria and Mariko I also painted up a SWS DDH-22 head. I didn’t have a clear plan when I originally acquired her but after sketching out a few ideas I settled on a jade dragon theme.
Here’s a peek at my process, which hasn’t changed much over the years. After spraying a few layers of sealant as a base, I sketch out the eyelash details in watercolor pencil. I take some photos to assess symmetry and match to the concept, fix as needed, and then I seal the pencil sketch and paint over it with light brown acrylic. Next I build up layers of paint and pastel blush until I reach a level of finish I’m happy with, spraying some light sealant coats as fixative as needed. For the final step I painted a bit of shine pearl powder onto the scale parts of the faceup to add a bit of sparkle. The eyebrow paints are also mixed with a bit of metallic gold so they have some glitter, too.
I’m still not decided on the right wig/eyes/accessories for this look but I do appreciate how elegant she looks in this ruffly M+V Studio gown!
This blue/blond wig is from Mandarake, the horns are from a Taobao seller and eyes are handmade Twinkle style (in slightly different colors, oops!)
I also tested out a different pair of horns, with a pink twintail wig from Dollyteria and handmade Dragon style eyes in blue.
I’m waiting on a new pair of horns and a wig I hope works for her final look, but having fun dressing her up in different styles meanwhile!
