Well, it happened again- I spotted a lonely Dream Choice doll on Dollyteria, and couldn’t resist the call. It was around this time last year that I picked up my first DDH-30 doll and now I’ve done it again. This girl has the M02 faceup style whereas my first has the M01, so they’re not exactly the same.
New girl came with the droopy style elf ears (DD-EA-05), which are very cute in person!
It’s been a bit since I first looked at the MDD 2.0 body, so now I can do an update given my current knowledge and show the new features of MDD Mochi-ashi f-3 2.0 (I really hate this naming convention).
First of all, feet for Mochi 2.0 have changed a lot! In the pic below you can see a regular MDD foot, a regular first-gen mochi foot, and mochi 2.0 foot. While the fat mochi foot does have really cute proportions, it doesn’t fit a lot of 1/4 shoes which frustrated MDD owners. New mochi 2.0 foot style is slimmer and fits MDD shoes easily.
The mochi body now ships with these slim feet as well as an updated L bust and regular sized hands. Old mochi bodies will have chubby MDD ‘deka’ hands and S bust (not pictured since my old body is using third party MDD hands instead). The new sculpt is a lot sleeker too, especially at the hips and thighs. No longer will people feel the need to swap the lower abdomen for a DDP part to get a streamlined shape. The updated mochi also comes with the same upgraded neck part as MDD 2.0, negating the need for third-party solutions like the one I’ve installed on my old mochi body. Hands, busts and head parts should be swappable between the old and 2.0 mochi, but the feet are not. On the downside, it does have the same issue I noticed in MDD 2.0 where the bust has a bit of gapping underneath.
A quick look at the rear – the bum feels fuller and wider on the new body.

I don’t have any specifically mochi-ashi tight fitting clothes so I can’t be sure, but I feel that anything which was barely fitting on v1 will probably be a no-go given the fuller rear and default L bust of 2.0. Also considering the change to the frame on the feet/ankle there could be other frame changes between the gens that make part swapping between old and 2.0 bodies difficult, but I haven’t disassembled anybody far enough to confirm. At this point I consider cross-compatibility to be iffy for stuff beyond the usual hands, bust and head swapping.
All things considered, I’m glad that Mochi-ashi got a revamp as it’s a very cute body and deserves a place alongside the updated MDD f-3 2.0.
A friend tolds me his old type mochi ashi legs keep falling of easily if lets say doing sitting pose. This 2.0 solved that issue ?
It doesn’t really solve the issue – the abdomen will still push on the legs a bit when they’re moved into a sitting position, causing them to slide off the posts in the hip joint a little at a time. The solution is to push the legs in at the hips when adjusting the pose so that the joints don’t slide out.
