It’s been quiet here as we reach the end of winter, although I have been doing some prep for future faceups once the weather is nice.
Meanwhile, I spontaneously picked up another girl from Mandarake recently. She’s a Dream Choice MDD in tan, with the DDH-30 head sculpt and the updated f-3 2.0 body. I wasn’t all-in on this head sculpt when I first saw it, but I figured I needed a new tan MDD body anyway since my original tan MDD III version is starting to show its age. Now that she’s arrived, I gained a new appreciation for the cuteness of this sculpt.
DDH-30 has a sculpted open mouth and a cute round head, perfect for MDD. The original Mandarake listing said that the head was customized, but I didn’t see any indications – I think they just aren’t familiar with this particular head since it’s rather new.

From this goofy photo you get a better idea of how the mouth is sculpted, it’s certainly not as flat as other head sculpts.
Now that I’ve spent more time with the MDD f-3 2.0 I have a better understanding of the mechanics versus when I made my initial review. It’s a big improvement over the III frame, but mostly the same as the f-3 frame with the main changes being to the external vinyl shell pieces. The most notable frame change is the slimmer neck post, which makes changing out heads easier. I also noticed that newer bust pieces flare out more toward the top of the neck, which should help make larger heads look more natural on MDD body.

My tan MDD III girl has custom wrist/hand and ear pieces, but you can see overall that the skin tone has remained pretty consistent despite her age. The elbow joints are a better match on the new 2.0 body, they are slightly darker on MDD III.
And once I got her all set up, it was time for a fun photoshoot!
