We’ve finally arrived at the season of intermittent sunny days, so I was able to make some progress on a couple outstanding faceup projects. First to the finish line was this custom modded DDH-27 head. This is the same head sculpt I previously painted in SWS for my fennec fox mage character.
This head was lingering in storage without a plan, so I decided it’d be a good candidate to test some mods. I used UV-cure resin to build up the lower eyelids a bit, and cut the mouth to make a cute expression. So far the UV-cure resin has held up great to sanding and sealing. The edge blended pretty well except for one small area, but since I planned to add some creases to make the lower eyelid feel puffy, it was easy to cover up the small flaw. I originally got a closed-eye head thinking I could use the existing vinyl to support UV resin filling in the edges around the eye hole, but the vinyl is too close to the inside edge and makes fitting eyes difficult. Trying to place eyes was likely to push the resin out of place and crack it, so I ended up cutting away all the vinyl and doing a full open eye mod in the end.
My original theme for this faceup was a feral puppy energy, but I think the sweeter cheery look suits her pretty well. I did end up giving her a fang as a nod to her being a bit of a wild child. The outfit is made by Cloth Lab, hands are from FashionTale, wig is unknown second hand, and shoes are probably Code Noir but I don’t remember for certain.
I’ll wait and see how the UV-cure resin ages, but so far it seems like a pretty safe and easy way to do mods! The resin came from a taobao shop and in three different skin tones that made finding a match pretty easy, if you want to try it for yourself.
