She’s here! Much to my surprise Volks released both Anthy and Utena as Dollfie Dreams, and Anthy was the first to join the Doll Lab. She’s on the DDS body in Tawny skin, and wears her classic Rose Bride attire. Did I mention that Revolutionary Girl Utena is one of my all-time favorite anime? It had a huge influence on me as a youngster and to this day I still collect RGU merchandise here and there. So of course I had to grab Anthy and Utena Dollfie Dreams, that’s like my top two hobbies combined and made beautiful babies! :D
Volks made a valiant effort to capture Anthy’s signature hairstyle. Unfortunately the headcap of the wig is deep black and seems likely to stain, so I probably won’t use it much. Hence switching her to the rrabit wig for some photos! The tawny skin color, only released previously with Dollfie Icon Terra, is absolutely lovely and yes unlike the Icons she has matching tawny frame parts. Just to be safe I also made a tawny-color body suit to protect from stains, but fortunately her default outfit is pretty safe.
Anthy also comes with her glasses, and a nicely made Chuchu plush! Her earrings are included as well but since I didn’t want to pierce her ears I haven’t tried them yet. Overall the entire outfit is well made with lovely details, and Volks has definitely made some efforts to reduce staining by lining the bodice and cuffs. Of course I’m still worried about stains since currently there are not replacement parts for any of the tawny body parts, hopefully that will change in the future. Tawny Dream Choice, please???
One thing that stood out for me when Anthy and Utena were announced was the detail of their default faceups. Volks has produced some lovely prototypes in the past that didn’t translate well into production masks (see Towa and Sheryl) but I think the Utena and Anthy masks are very well done! The soft blushing around the eyes and on the lips matches closely to the prototype, and the delicate eyelash details while not as dainty are still well produced.
I also had her try out this lovely purple wig I picked up from rrabit a while ago, to match Anthy’s movie look. As for Anthy’s glasses, they’re made of thin plastic and seem pretty fragile, so I’d advise caution when using them.
Since Utena arrived shortly after I’ll have a bunch more photos of this classic couple together soon, it was just a bit much to cram into one post. Don’t worry Anthy, your price will be here soon~
And bonus comparison with her big sis, Dollfie Icon Terra!
