It’s been quiet here at the doll lab since I’ve been in the process of packing up the dolls (and everything else that I own) to relocate. Now things are starting to settle and I can finally introduce this handsome fella who arrived the day before my move – DD Kaito.
Kaito is the most recent pre-order project, and I ordered him from Volks International to get faster delivery and a much more favorable exchange rate. Although I’m not really a Vocaloid fan, I’m a collector of cute sculpts and he definitely fits the bill. His default set also tickled my fancy so I decided to bust it out of the plastic and give it a proper test drive. I checked the head right away and fortunately he didn’t have the neck hole cracks that we saw on a lot of 2B/9S dolls from that pre-order. The faceup is nicely done in my case and I’ll probably let him stay default for a bit since I have a backlog of faceups I want to attack first.
His outfit has loads of neat details, and some wiring in the coat for posing. I had some trouble getting his zipper to work correctly, and the scarf makes scary snagging noises even though it doesn’t actually snag. Also the styling of his wig is a bit off, and seems to vary a lot between individual sets. Still the complexity of the outfit is really impressive, Volks DD sets have come such a long way in the last 10 years!
Since none of my other Vocaloids have remained in character I’m not sure who Kaito will hang out with on the doll shelf – for now, it’s my DDH-16 borrowing the SWS D’Coord boy body.
